We’ve released a new enhancement to help keep your estimates cleaner, faster, and more consistent: Linked Unit Costs. (Click here for a video explaining the new feature)

With Linked Unit Costs, the unit cost you set for an Item is now automatically applied everywhere that Item appears in your estimate—no matter which Takeoff, Assembly, Label, or Sheet it’s on. Instead of chasing down and updating the same cost in multiple places, you set it once at the Item level and STACK keeps it in sync for you.

What’s Changed?

Before:

  • Unit costs could differ based on a unique combo of Item + Assembly + Takeoff + Label + Sheet.

  • If you changed a label or moved something to a different sheet, it could feel like your cost edits “disappeared,” even though they were tied to that old combination.

Now, with Linked Unit Costs:

  • Costs are “sticky” to the Item itself.

  • Changing labels, sheets, or where the Item appears won’t overwrite the cost you’ve set.

  • You get consistent pricing across your estimate with far fewer manual edits.

And if you do need different costs for the same Item in special cases (e.g., different regions, phases, or scopes), you can unlink and customize those costs where needed.

Why This Helps

Some key benefits of Linked Unit Costs in STACK Takeoff & Estimate:

  • ⏱ Time Savings – Set the cost once at the Item level and reuse it everywhere.

  • âś… Accuracy & Consistency – Avoid accidental overwrites when labels or sheets change.

  • 🔧 Flexibility When Needed – Unlink costs in those edge cases where pricing truly should be different.

We’d Love Your Input 💬

We built this with real-world estimating workflows in mind, but you know your process best.

Question for you:

What types of workflows do you see Linked Unit Costs helping with in your STACK Takeoff & Estimate projects?

Drop a reply and let us know:

  1. What kind of work you do (trade / role)

  2. How you think you’ll use Linked Unit Costs in your estimates

  3. Any examples where this will save you time or prevent errors

Your feedback will help us refine this feature and shape what we build next in STACK. 🙌
